This Belgian woman recalls the five weeks she spent as a civilian prisoner of the German Army during August and September, 1914, immediately after the outbreak of World War I, describing atrocities committed by German soldiers upon Belgian soldiers and civilians, the capture and burning of Louvain, Belgium, and the harsh treatment of Belgian civilian prisoners.
